Project: Black Plague(1) by wang2dog Project: Black Plague(1) by wang2dog
The original story derived from the novel "ivanhoe", but i push the time to 16 century europe with black plague. This project contains 7 pieces, will update regularly.
The overall tone of this project is dark realistic fantasy, so you won't see something over the top. Nevertheless, using 7 pieces to show an ip and world setting is very challenging, so i will focus on the specific events and story telling during that special period.
Top: jewish healer's house, use metaphors such as plants, flowers to symbolise recovery. Since the novel mention that the room is decorated in an oriental way, i keep the medieval wooden structure and elaborate with patterns. In this scene Ivanhoe got injured and was brought back to her house to be take care of.
Bottom: Plague physician applying leeches on top of a patient's body to suck his blood. Back then doctors believe the illness is caused by unbalance of body fluid, so letting out blood is the most common method to cure the patients. I also remix with some alchemy stuff.

I think the way the illuminations are rendered and scattered through the interior air makes the two scenes stand out.  In addition to the illuminations, the detailed rendering of the walls and the furnitures help to make them feel realistic.  Excellent! :+fav: :)

You are very much welcome!

Yeah ... rather time-consuming to say the least.  (Based on the sheer sophistication of this piece, I felt right away that it must have taken quite an amount of time and attention!)  However, I think it is well worth the trouble.

I think I'm going to have to come back and eyeball your gallery the next time I try to finish something. You were always an inspiration in school; something about being able to wander over and see epic worlds coming together visually helped catalyze my own brain into getting out of blank-space mode!

pure production, something around 2 days each,my speed has slow down compare to last term since i get burn out after 10 month of fzd. we have weeks and weeks with rough drawings to design the ip and gets approved though.

Sounds about right. I'm getting a little burned out myself right now, I think my speed took something like a 20% hit in the last week.

yeah, since painting requires high concentration, you need a cool down period afterward. Last week still feels like hell, we have a 6 wk project, but technically, only 5 wks, 7 pieces required. We went through rounds of development sketch and find ourselves only start production around wk5 or so, i have to get done with 2 paintings, clean up the rest of the pieces within a wk or so, quite desperate. All the painters in my class have to take 2 days straight without doing much.

Man, that was the worst thing about school- you'd have "weeks" to work on something, but in reality it'd be more like three days of planning and one day of execution.
